Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. mult. August-Wilhelm Scheer receives Rudolf Diesel Medal

Honored for "Most Successful Innovative Achievement" as a Pioneer of Modern Architectures for Information Systems

Saarbruecken/Augsburg, July 14th, 2023

On July 13, 2023, the Rudolf Diesel Medal, the oldest and most prestigious innovation award, was presented to Prof. Dr. August-Wilhelm Scheer in Augsburg in the category "most successful innovation achievement". He was honored as a visionary and entrepreneurial implementer of modern architectures for information systems.

The Rudolf Diesel Medal has been awarded since 1953 in memory of the innovator Rudolf Diesel, inventor of the diesel engine. The Rudolf Diesel Medal honors individuals for special achievements in the field of invention and innovation culture.

Famous recipients include Wernher von Braun as a rocket pioneer, Gottlieb Daimler and Wilhelm Maybach as pioneers of automotive engineering, Conrad Zuse as the inventor of the computer, the founders of SAP AG, and several Nobel Prize winners.

The justification for the award of the medal states, among other things: "The ARIS concept, developed by August-Wilhelm Scheer around 1990, is a framework for optimizing business processes. The software product ARIS Toolset for modeling and optimizing business processes, developed by his company IDS Scheer AG, became one of the few internationally successful software products made in Germany. The ARIS concept simultaneously provided a theoretical foundation for the success of the process-oriented enterprise software that has shaped corporate information processing over the past 30 years."

All companies are internationally oriented. As a driver for innovation through application-oriented research, Scheer founded the non-profit "August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute for Digital Products and Processes".

"The Rudolf Diesel Medal is a very special honor for me. It is a recognition of the path I have taken as a scientist and entrepreneur. My drive has always been to successfully turn ideas from my research into products and services. This still drives me today."

Prof. Scheer's latest book, "Composable Enterprise", outlines the architecture for the digitized enterprise of the future.

imc AG expands portfolio of solutions for schools

Welcome to the hybrid classroom: imc AG expands portfolio of solutions for schools

imc AG, leading provider for digital training and professional development makes schools fit for digitalisation

Saarbruecken, 02 August 2021

Today, imc AG is presenting its My Digital School programme, expanding its portfolio for schools.

It was already well-known before the corona crisis: Germany’s schools are lagging behind considerably with their digital equipment. However, schools can only be successfully digitalised if the right conditions are created, and teachers are trained in handling and utilising relevant media and learning content. This is why imc wants to share its experience from 25 years of corporate learning with schools and school boards.

imc has been cooperating with several schools for a few years, and regularly exchanges ideas with them. Thus, the obvious next step is to expand the offer and support schools around the world with the expertise gained in this field. My Digital School aims to help teachers and schools to design tailored virtual and hybrid models, and realise them in a meaningful way.

imc Board Spokesman Christian Wachter has been driving cooperations with schools for many years. He is very aware of the issues many schools face:

“For one, there is a lack of expertise like knowing how to use modern communication tools and systems. Moreover, relevant teaching and learning concepts need to be developed, given that digital learning differs from traditional lessons. Filming a face-to-face lesson or sending out an overhead slide in PDF format does not make it digital learning. Nevertheless, providing encouragement to take a step towards digitalisation is a matter close to our hearts. This past year, we realised numerous successful projects in schools that can serve as best practice examples for others.”

Scheer Group companies prove to be strong partners, winning three of the sixteen Gaia-X projects

The award for MERLOT, POSSIBLE and Gaia-X RESCUE facilitates broad engagement in key flagship projects of the European Cloud Initiative

Saarbruecken, 02 July 2021

Gaia-X is a European project to develop a competitive, secure, and reliable data infrastructure for Europe, involving representatives from industry, science, and administration. The objective is to develop and provide applications that leverage the opportunities of modern cloud technology while guaranteeing data sovereignty for all users. Scheer Group companies and the August-Wilhelm Scheer Institute are now among the selected project partners for the Gaia-X flagship projects MERLOT, POSSIBLE and Gaia-X RESCUE.

Innovative and practical applications and dataspaces in the digital Gaia-X ecosystem receive funding from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi). Project partners must ensure the technological viability of new applications, as well as their economic feasibility and security. As the umbrella company for the Scheer Group companies, Scheer Holding has already been involved in Gaia-X since the autumn of 2019.

For instance, applications for the education sector, medium-sized companies and administration bodies are developed and implemented to facilitate secure data exchange.

  • Gaia-X-RESCUE seeks innovative data solutions for a smart fire brigade. It revolves around the collection, analysis, and distribution of data in rescue services, implemented via secure dataspaces in the cloud. inspirient GmbH, a start-up investee of Scheer Holding, is participating in this project.

“I am delighted that the jury approved of our innovative partners and ideas for the MERLOT, POSSIBLE and Gaia-X RESCUE projects, especially in relation to the public sector including education,” says Dr. Sabine Wilfling, Unit Lead Public Government, Scheer GmbH. “Quickly applying Gaia-X in precisely those areas across all regions is crucial.”

imc Express - the new AI-based authoring software

imc AG presents imc Express – the new AI-based authoring software

With the new authoring tool imc Express, the e-learning provider opens up the possibility for companies to quickly and easily digitise knowledge.

Saarbruecken, 06 May 2021

Today, imc AG is launching the new cloud-based software imc Express that enables users to create e-learning courses and digital training quickly and effectively. The tool is available worldwide and well-suited for use in almost any type of operation.

Cloud-based and without app installation

The cloud-based tool requires no prior knowledge or app installation, and can be used on any device. It also supports the creation of barrier-free content. An extensive toolkit offers great flexibility with features including design templates, image databases, surveys and much more. A range of options for the output format such as text or audio and the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in imc Express help to achieve maximum productivity. For instance, imc Express can translate contents into almost all languages of the world at the click of a button.

The driving force behind the development of this intelligent authoring tool was the ever-increasing demand for user-generated content in corporate learning – learning content created by employees themselves. The vision: The software is designed to enable everyone – from apprentice through production staff to managers – to digitise their knowledge in a quick and straightforward manner and share it with others.

imc Express is as easy to use as an Instagram filter

Oliver Nussbaum, Managing Director of imc Austria, played a crucial role in the development of the software: “There are many authoring tools that would be classified as software for experts,” Nussbaum describes the provider market. These facilitate highly complex processes. However, without prior knowledge, such programs are often overwhelming.

“imc Express is easy to use,” says Nussbaum, offering a comparison to Instagram filters: “You have an image that you want to post, and simply want to optimise it quickly. Instagram will automatically suggest various filters, you select one of them ... and you’re done. With imc Express, we created a similar functionality for learning content.”

At the Top: imc AG and BASF SE Receive GOLD 2019 Brandon Hall Award

Leading e-learning provider imc and chemical company BASF SE received one of the most coveted gold medals at this year's Brandon Hall Group Learning Awards for the learning app "My Digital Basecamp."

Saarbruecken, 09.09.2019

How can digitalisation be anchored in your company? The chemical company BASF asked itself this exact question then commissioned leading e-learning specialists imc AG to develop a competency and skill development solution. The solution was ‘My Digital Basecamp, a custom web app which just received the Gold Award for "Best Advance in Competencies and Skill Development" at the 2019 Brandon Hall Excellence Awards.

"My Digital Basecamp" has allowed BASF employees to undertake a ‘digital expedition’ of sorts as part of the company's journey into digital transformation. "We want to drive the digital transformation together with our employees. With our offerings, such as the Digital Basecamp, we want to make this topic as tangible as possible, actively involving colleagues and getting them excited about upcoming opportunities," explains Martin Stork, BASF Head of Workforce Enablement. "We not only impart knowledge on technological aspects, but also on new ways of working” he says.

"The Brandon Hall Awards are the Oscars of the international e-learning industry," explains Sven R. Becker, imc Executive Board member. "It is always an honour to receive such an award and we are particularly pleased that we have been able to do so together with BASF. This project was very intensive for both sides, as we had to resort to creative workshop methods, such as, design-thinking during the conception phase and also design the entire project approach in an agile way to be able to verify the quality of the results at any time throughout the project. Therefore, we are even more pleased that the judges honoured this great result with the highest possible award".

“The Brandon Hall Group Excellence Awards programme has recognised leading organisations for the past twenty-plus years for the latest trends in Human Capital Management,” said Rachel Cooke, Brandon Hall Group COO and leader of the HCM Excellence Awards Program. “The initiatives that were honoured are not only innovative but fit the unique needs of the business and create truly remarkable success stories.”

For 26 years, the Brandon Hall Group has honoured outstanding achievements in areas, such as, learning and development, talent management and executive development. Each year there are several hundred submissions, of which only approx. 20% are awarded either bronze, silver or gold medals. Criteria, such as design, user-friendliness, clear objectives, measurability and innovation are decisive in the judges’ evaluation.

imc and Linde Receive Gold Award for Serious Game

Distinction for Best Learning Programme at World Media Festival in Hamburg

Saarbruecken, 16.05.2019

At the 20th World Media Festival on 15 May 2019 imc AG was honoured with an award for the innovative Serious Game "City of Goods". The Jury of the Television & Corporate Media Awards awarded imc an intermedia-globe Gold Award in the Learning Programmes category. imc designed the learning game "City of Goods" for its customer Linde Material Handling GmbH for the training of warehouse employees.

Every year, the expert jury of the Television & Corporate Media Awards honours outstanding solutions from the areas of TV and Corporate Media on an international level. Applications from the fields of information, education and entertainment that can be submitted in 14 different categories are considered by the jury. The focus of the experts lies on creativity, technical excellence, comprehensibility and target-group-oriented communication when it comes to selecting the best applications.

„ We feel honoured to receive this award together with our customer Linde at the World Media Festival “, states Sven R. Becker, Member of the imc Board responsible for Sales, Marketing, Corporate Communication and Content. „Serious Games currently are an important trend in e-learning. We absolutely consider Linde as digital champion when it comes to using digital learning strategies and innovative learning methods. It is great that we are able to support this approach by providing, implementing and introducing creative learning content.

In the serious game "City of Goods" the learners walk through a virtual warehouse, where they become familiar with different work steps. During conversations with logisticians, they learn what challenges await them at the various stations and that they are supposed to solve without any help. The learner receives points for correctly solved tasks and loses points for incorrectly solved challenges. This playful learning approach helps employees to develop experiential knowledge which they can apply more easily in reality than knowledge learned by heart.
