CLIX for mobile devices
Saarbrücken, 14th February 2011 – With the increasing popularity of smartphones and compact, handy tablet computers, mobile applications are becoming more and more a matter of course. IMC AG is now one of the first learning technology providers to launch an application of this kind: "CLIX Learn&Go". This is a new service to complement the IMC AG Learning Suite which runs on the iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile operating systems. "Today's mobile phones are mobile offices, multimedia entertainment centres, telephones and also learning systems in one," explains IMC CEO Dr Wolfgang Kraemer. "But mobile applications are only worthwhile if they are seamlessly integrated into business and learning processes. And that is exactly what our service does."
Users are becoming increasingly unwilling to carry heavy laptops around with them for working, studying or entertainment. Instead, stylish smartphones and handy tablets are the latest thing, and their use is set to increase thanks to apps from Apple. CLIX Learn&Go is such a mobile application, or app. It communicates directly with the CLIX system and provides a customised learning environment. There are 'location-based services' to provide location-specific information, for example, the courses available in a particular area.
In an academic environment, students can view their courses, media and current course messages at a glance, access participant lists and transfer course appointments to their calendar system. It also allows lecturers to inform students of room or time changes at short notice through "CLIX Learn&Go". Another idea is that students could also use their smartphones to take part in spontaneous votes during lectures, even if they are not in the room.
Of course, this kind of scenario is also very interesting for travelling sales representatives. "We are already working on initial projects from the corporate sector," confirms Kraemer.
iPhone, Android and Windows Mobile operating system: learners can get the information they need sent directly to their mobiles, for example, information on courses, media or time changes. "Location Based Services" can even be used to find out about the courses available in their current location. This application is particularly useful for supporting sales representatives within an organisation, as it means they can take their personal learning environment with them wherever they go.
POWERTRAINER is also mobile
Swiping, zooming, rotating – you can do it all with courses based on the IMC POWERTRAINER authoring tool. In the latest Release 3.9, self-created media can be displayed and published on Android-based tablets and smartphones. IMC has developed its own design (known as a 'skin') to guarantee optimum display of the courses on the relevant mobile device. The limited space available on portable computers is maximised to allow effective, convenient learning on the go.
