Fachhochschule Technikum Kaernten (Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Austria) introduces CLIX

The school counts on integrable standard software and professional services

Fachhochschule Technikum Kaernten (Carinthia University of Applied Sciences, Austria) considers the introduction of CLIX Campus as standard learning solution for the school to be a fundamental decision against open source solutions. Robert Zwischenberger, e-Learning manager with FHTK, explains the decision for CLIX with the system’s capability and the school’s high demands: “The realisation of our blended learning strategy is only possible if based on professional standard systems, combined with professional support and consultancy. An open source system wouldn’t be able to meet our needs and, moreover, it would require us to take care for the software’s further development, adaptation and integration – processes where we are lacking time and human resources. In contrast, IMC as provider of approved implementation and integration services does a professional job here.”

In a first step, CLIX will be connected to the LDAP directory server and the SMTP server. In the course of the project, the information system “Actions”, a development by the FHTK, will be integrated to the learning system. Against this background it is of special importance for FHTK to be able to operate the system on their own.

FHTK knows what learning management in the field of higher education means, as its CLIX licensing volume shows: Together with the basic system CLIX Campus, the school also has obtained licenses for CLIX Resource Management in order to be able to model organisational processes.

Being located in four different sites in Austria at Villach, Spittal, Klagenfurt and Feldkirchen, it was of special importance for the FHTK to be able to model cooperative learning forms in CLIX. This will be realised via the integrated CLIX Virtual Classroom, based on Adobe Breeze.

A significant factor in the decision for CLIX also was the Advanced Testing System. With multiple choice, single choice, matching questions, multimedia drag&drop questions etc. the FHTK now has a comprehensive choice of question types at hand which will be integrated as automated tests in diverse online courses.

Michael A. Sifkovits MSc MAS, Director Austria with IMC, and Dr. Tilman Kuechler, Director Higher Education, consider the decision by FHT Kaernten to be a signal for the Austrian higher education market: “The decision process of FHT Kaernten was characterised by a professional evaluation of exiting systems and by a detailed comparison of their capabilities to the school’s needs. The decision for our learning management system CLIX Campus system not only is a proof of its capability, but also and especially of our solutions sustainability.”

Dr. Wolfgang Kraemer, spokesman for the IMC Supervisory Board, sees a confirmation of the company’s strategy: “The ability to integrate is essential for higher education solutions. Combined with our solutions for cooperative learning forms as the Virtual Classroom, but also the new functions coming with the next CLIX release – blogs, wikis and messaging – CLIX Campus is first choice for higher education organisations, not only from the point of view of the administration, but also form the didactic point of view.”
