EXPLAIN represents an expert-based toolset for creating training methods
in the product life cycle of industrial companies during development. The innovative joint project should make it easier for SMEs to access e-learning and is to be run over the course of two and a half years.

EXPLAIN, Q.E.D and Content-Sharing are three follow-on projects of the LERNET
programme in which eleven consortia are currently developing new e-learning content for German SMEs and public administrations.

In EXPLAIN, a method and toolbox equipped with didactic intelligence is to be created to enable experts in the companies to create multimedia learning content for their products in several languages without too much effort.
To this end, didactic templates are provided for existing open and XML-based authoring solutions. The experts can access these templates when developing typical product and technical training courses and can be interactively guided
through the process of creating content. The solutions are integrated in the real business processes of companies through a workflow-based repository. Content modelling methods that are used in the project should support the design of the content modules graphically and speed up their design through a link with the authoring tool.
